Crystals for the holidays

In case you haven’t noticed, it’s the holiday season. I intended to only have 2 holiday shows this year, especially with the new difficulty of scheduling conflicts and juggling three children. However, with the EXCITING opening of the new studio in November, SEVERAL new events were added to my calendar in a very short period of time. Events which were not at all on my radar. Plus adding work at my day job, launching four new businesses (yoga, reiki, bodywork, art), three kids, husband and the holiday season my fatigue and overwhelm has been tremendous the past couple days. I could curl up on the sidewalk mid stride and just sleep. I won’t, because I don’t want to get stepped on or frozen, but it is still tempting!

Sound familiar to anyone else?

It’s time for some serious self-care.

It feels a bit ridiculous during this time of giving to take time for yourself, right? It’s so easy to be bombarded by everything everyone else needs, especially with the ease of social media. People in need, everywhere… and I mean, everywhere! And it makes me sad, and makes me cry, and makes me want to help everyone. Being an empath as well, it’s incredibly hard not to physically and emotionally take on all that “need”. To me, it kind of feels like being pushed into a black hole while still reaching out with a ladder to help the person next to you in a last ditch effort before you are too far down.

So I’m making a conscious decision to move that ladder into my OWN black hole and help myself crawl out.

My Action plan (and resources for you should you want them):

1) putting my rose quartz under my pillow, and wear sunstone around my neck.

2) taking a nourishing bath (look up diy’s for Cleopatra’s rose and milk bath)

3) eating the right foods for my dosha to rebalance

4) taking the time to meditate and do yoga nidra with the master.

5) do some yoga and reiki to balance my chakras

6) making the best use of my favorite oil blends and flower elixirs

7) painting something (anything) for myself

8) read something to nourish my soul

…and just doing my best because if I’m all out of whack so is my reality.

I invite you to do the same.

Lara: What are you most grateful for?

Misty: I am truly grateful for my family. I was so blessed to have met my husband four years ago. He has supported my dreams, helped raise our amazing son, and gave me the big family I always wanted. Truth be told, when I am having down days; I really reflect on my many blessings.

Lara: How do you prefer to show your gratitude?  (do you have any traditions)

Misty: I have many ways of showing my gratitude. I think the most meaningful to me, is writing them in my journal.

Lara: What are your favorite fall season traditions?

Misty: I love being with my family, eating pumpkin pies, and being in the cooler weather.

Lara: Do you have any favorite fall season art/crafts/etc…

Misty: My favorite thing to do during this time of year is cook. I do continue to create art…but there is nothing better than the smell of desserts cooking 🙂

Lara: Why did you decide to be part of this group of artists for this project?

Misty: I originally decided to create this workshop because I was working through the loss of my baby brother. Losing him at such a young age really hurt me. It made me reflect deeply with what I was doing with my life and how I wanted to make a difference. Finding the right supportive community is essential when working through loss. Then I decided to reach out to the lovely ladies who are with us. I have been blessed beyond measure to work with such talented ladies.  These amazing ladies stepped up and helped bring this workshop to life, when I suffered from more loss.  I have to give a special thank you to Julia Osterc.  I am so grateful for Julia stepping up to help me, without her I don’t think I would of seen this dream of mine come true.

Here’s what Misty will be guiding participants through for her project in the Art of Gratitude E-course:

Reflections of Blessings – Art Journal with Misty Olsen

Life as we know it is filled with obstacles and challenges. I believe that when we are faced with loss or heartache, reflecting on the blessings to fill your heart with gratitude will heal and sooth us. It’s our readiness to show appreciation for the small blessings that make the big impacts in our lives. So, I have created an art journal so that we can do daily reflections of the small blessings that made our lives wonderful that day.

This bonus project is to share and document the journey of gratitude. For this project, we will be creating a long-stitch art journal for our daily reflections of blessings.    Join us now

I am a self-taught mixed-media artist and painter, having taken many art classes through local universities, online classes, and read too many art books to count. Throughout my life, I have been on a long journey full of ups and downs. I use these emotions and past experiences to inspire my artwork, and to fuel my journey of happiness and healing. Each day I work towards bettering myself, both as a person, and as an artist. The joy art brings me fuels my desire to help others in the same way that art has helped me.

Lara: What are you most grateful for?

Chasity: I am, above all else, grateful for God’s all-encompassing and compassionate love for me. I am so thankful that He loved me enough to send His son for me so that I can be forgiven of the times when I sin against Him. I am thankful for the perfect and eternal home that He has provided for me and I look forward to the day when I can be there reunited with my sister…. forever and ever with the rest of my family.

*** Just an FYI from Lara: this course is not based on any particular religious beliefs or teachings. ALL people are welcome to join us, regardless of culture, traditions, or beliefs.  There’s opportunity to invite whatever speaks to you into your Art of Gratitude projects and practice.

Chasity: I am also so so SO grateful for my beautiful family ~ for my supportive and patient (and gorgeous) husband and my sweet, kind girls. They fill my heart with crazy amounts of joy and wonder.

Lara: How do you prefer to show your gratitude?  (do you have any traditions?)

Chasity: My favorite way to show gratitude is to perform random acts of kindness for others. There is nothing more fulfilling than forgetting my own selfish wants and concentrating on someone else. It adds the most brilliant sunshine to the cloudiest day!

Lara: What are your favorite fall season traditions?

Chasity: I am always so excited to pull out the scarves and sweaters and boots for fall. I love going hiking in the woods … eating little autumn apples and listening to the crunch of leaves under my feet. We always take our family vacation in the fall. The summer crowds are gone…. the weather is wonderful… the leaves have started changing. It’s most most favorite tradition that I have~ above any and all traditions.

Lara: Do you have any favorite fall season art/crafts/etc…

Chasity: I haven’t ever embraced any particular craft just for fall but of course, I love to open the windows and doors on a beautiful fall day and get lost in the peace of painting. The light during a fall day is so golden and perfect… and that gentle coolness in the wind….
ahhhhh. I love it.

Lara: Why did you decide to be part of this group of artists for this project?

Chasity: I have tried to make a life centered around gratitude and joy-seeking since I lost my sister to cancer 4 years ago.  It’s how I keep myself in a happy, thankful state that is good for myself and for my family.  Being part of this course with those same intentions seemed like a perfect fit.  I am so thankful to be a part of this art course along with these other beautiful, caring women.  What a blessing!

Here’s what Chasity will be guiding participants through for her project in the Art of Gratitude E-course:

 * A Grateful Girl * Art, Heart, & Soul with Chasity Heck

In this class, you will be painting a mixed media portrait of a darling, whimsical girl who reflects your sweet and joyful inner-self.

We will be creating a beautiful background of layers and colors using some fun, easy, creative techniques.

From there, we will then add in a gorgeous little girl that is blooming with joy along with some meaningful words of gratitude that really speak to what is in your heart.

We will also be on a week-long soul journey together, reflecting on mantras like: learning to follow our hearts, cherishing our journey, and believing in ourselves.  We will have daily journal prompts to work through which will help us find the path we were meant to be traveling. And finally, we will have a daily creativity activity to help reinforce what we’ve been learning about ourselves and how to live to our fullest potential.     Join us now
