Mind, Body, + Spirit Alchemy. The Art of Living a Heart-Centered Life

New Moon = Fresh Perspective

This month has been wild and crazy. A month of huge motivation, and huge hibernation. A month of BUSY, and a month of “I CAN’T possibly do any more so I’m just going to not do anything”. A month of optimism and a month of pessimism. A month of aligning with my True North, and a month of my Ego Self telling me all the things I CAN’T and SHOULDN’T do. The WHOLE spectrum, my friends. And I have a feeling I’m not the only one.

What I DID do this month which has been getting me through some of these wild and crazy days, as vision board (or mood board, or inspiration board). I created one for myself (those lovely reminders that I’M GOOD and I’M WORTH IT!). And I created one to help me put together an epic business plan for the new creative coworking space I’m putting my ALL into right now.

vision board

This also happens to be my absolute favorite thing to do on a new moon. It helps bring into focus things which may have gotten totally out of whack, and showing myself what I FEEL is really important (which is usually NOT my “to do” list).

Should you feel called to try this out yourself today for this new moon, here’s the lowdown:

  • get out a large piece of paper, you will use this as your board (a cork board would also work)
  • find a few magazines (even 1 or 2 would work)
  • grab glue/tape and a scissors
  • start vision boarding! Personally, I like to do this when talking with other people because it gets me out of my head and I only cut out things that really call to me at the moment. This is your chance to dream, and think big! How do you want your life to be? How do you want to feel? What do you want in your life? You may be drawn to cutting out words, or maybe pictures. Just go with the flow. Try to keep any judgement to the side. Keep sticking things to your paper until you feel like you’re done
  • Now take a good look at it. Do you see any repeated words, images, phrases, themes? Use this as your guide through the next new moon. If you like to journal or take notes, you could journal about your board or write down anything you notice, and that calls your attention.
  • Once you’ve finished your vision board and you’ve found your theme, take a minute to make an “I am….” statement. Even though you are thinking future tense (“I’d like to be more calm and patient”, for instance), you want to phrase the sentence in the present tense (“I am calm and patient”).
  • Once you have your “I am…” statement, take a moment to close your eyes, relax and repeat with your breathing. On the inhale “I am…”, on the exhale “…..”. Take as many breaths as you need here. To help intensify your intention even more you can put your hands in a Kubera Mudra. Touch the tip of your thumb, index finger and middle finger together. Bend the other two fingers (ring and pinky) toward the middle of your hand so the tips of those fingers touch the palm of your hand.

Now you have the tools to help you into this new moon phase. I suggest you keep the vision board where you can see it every day. I also suggest you write your “I am…” statement somewhere where you can see it, and continue to repeat it with your breath and using the Kubera Mudra to set the intention and focus your energy.

Remember to bring love into your everyday life, even in the littlest ways. I know how hard it can be, how burnt out one can get, and how exhausted we all are. Be gentle on yourself and take time for self-care!

HONEYMOON

I have a couple more openings for a Series of Three Distance Energy Sessions, and they are discounted for January ONLY!

Find out more about this opportunity here. We begin today!

**Stuck in the New Year** – A special for YOU

“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend.” – Melody Beattie

Every year on January 1st people make big dreams, plan big plans, and set big goals for the upcoming year. They shed the previous year and start with a fresh perspective for the new year. They buy planners and journals, buy new workout clothes, throw out the sugar from their cupboards, swear this is the year they will do everything “right”, and forge ahead with a renewed perspective on life. At least that’s what it seems we are supposed to do, right?

This year, I seem to find it difficult just to ignore and say good riddance to 2016 and move right into a fresh new year. I’ve been sitting with this and I’m feeling it’s impossible to just shed one year and move on to the next. After all, everything that happened in us, to us, and around us brought us to where we are right now. ALL of 2016 made me who I am on January 1, 2017. Instead of just saying “bha-bye” to 2016 and pretending like it never happened and starting ALL OVER, I’m sitting in gratitude of ALL the lessons I learned in 2016 and reflecting back on everything that brought me to December 31, 2016. I feel it’s quite difficult to move into a new year without first reflecting and sending gratitude to the year before. In doing this, I’m making energetic shifts, clearing pathways and finding it more simple to move into 2017 with grace.

This year 2017 feels more like a continuation of 2016 and having a grateful heart and knowing where I’ve been, makes moving forward flow much easier.

I’ve been doing some rearranging in my Self Care Yoga classes I teach to welcome in the practice of gratitude and also in my self care practices. I will be sharing those throughout the year.

More Coffee, Please…

IMG_6622

My husband and I just got back from a week long camping trip in Wisconsin with our kids. There was spotty cell reception and no wifi, so my phone and iPad were locked up in our car the entire week! In fact, I didn’t even take any photos!

It was a wonderful week of spending time at the lake, cooking meals on a camp stove, making s’mores over the campfire, and a couple days in town while it rained. The animal kingdom was SPEAKING in all it’s magnificent ways. Had our phones and iPads been working, we may have missed all of this. Here’s a post about the animal kingdom’s messages for us during our camping trip.

Now that we are all back, it’s right back at it! I’ve been busy starting up my new Self Care Sessions (yoga), organizing Moon Gatherings, cleaning the house, scheduling massage and wellness clients, dreaming up workshops, collaborating with a local non-profit art studio to begin Ladies’ Collaborative Paint Nights at their studio, planning the Cake By The Ocean – A Goddess Gathering in California in September, hanging art (stay tuned for an upcoming interactive art opening!), getting ready for an art show this weekend and a yoga festival next weekend, and organizing my trip to North Carolina in October to meet up with the lovely Alena Hennessy. Wait, is this my life??!?! YES!!! No wonder I drink a lot of coffee…

Here are some highlights of upcoming events:

Cake By The Ocean – A Goddess Gathering

I’ve added some new details for the Cake By The Ocean mini-retreat  in September in California on the website so be sure to check that out. It has to do with Dolphins and Whales!!!  AND, bring a friend for only $50 to our mini-retreat on the beach!

Ladies’ Collaborative Paint Nights Continue at courageous heARTs!

If you’re in the area and would be interested in joining me for the Ladies’ Collaborative Paint Nights, there are more details here or on the Facebook event page here. NO art experience necessary and you will NOT go home with a painting that looks like everyone else’s (super important for growing your creative/intuitive wings).

The paint nights are being moved to courageous heARTs, a local non-profit art studio for youth and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the organization each month.

Bring a friend and SAVE!

I’ll be hanging my art for this awesome event hosted by The Current on Saturday!

Bands from across genres and scenes come together to meet, perform and support one another, deepening their connection to the larger Minnesota music community. The Local Show’s Artists to Watch is a showcase of 10 of the best up-and-coming talent of 2016, presented across two stages at the Cedar Cultural Center on the West Bank of Minneapolis. Curated by music writer and Local Show host Andrea Swensson, Artists to Watch will provide fans with a unique opportunity to sample performances both inside and outside the Cedar, and will take advantage of the venue’s recently renovated outdoor plaza.

Fireflies are Calling… camping with the animal kingdom

FullSizeRender

Four of my spirit animals showed up (firefly, butterfly, dragonfly, owl), but there were many more making themselves known:
ONE single firefly spent an entire evening glowing under the rain cover of our tent JUST FOR US.

We spotted several butterflies around the beach and at the campsite.

We had a cricket hitchhiker in our car for several days (maybe he’s still hanging out in there?).

We were eaten alive by mosquitos (perhaps the most insistent animal).

We were lulled to sleep by cicadas every night while a few bats flew overhead. My son even found both the new cicada and it’s shedded skin on his bicycle tire one morning!

We had mayfly after mayfly landing in our hair on on our shoulders while we were on a paddle bike on the lake with the kids.

We heard an owl one night (just four hoots and then nothing again).

We watched dragonflies skim the lake as we swam.

And my husband even had a fish swim up and bite him!

The animal kingdom was SPEAKING in all it’s magnificent ways. Had our phones and iPads been working, we may have missed all of this.

Here’s a post about the animal kingdom’s messages for us during our camping trip.

Firefly: Firefly represents the illumination of things unseen. he will guide you through the dark times in life. He will show you how to live the simple life and how to trust your own instincts and intuition. He is there to light up your life. Firefly will lead you on a path to realize your goals. psychiclibrary.com.

Dragonfly: The dragonfly totem carries the wisdom of transformation and adaptability in life. As spirit animal, the dragonfly is connected to the symbolism of change and light. When he dragonfly shows up in your life, it may remind you to bring a bit more lightness and joy into your life. Those who have the animal as a totem may be inclined the delve deep into their emotions and shine their true colors. spiritanimal.info

Mosquito: Most of us view a Mosquito as a blood-sucking pest. However, as your totem, Mosquito reminds you to be vigilant of those who might be draining your energies – physically, emotionally or spiritually. Take a closer look at those who are around you that do not give back as much as they take from you. Are you currently experiencing energy depletion? Mosquito imports you to shield and protect yourself from this energy drain. psychiclibrary.com

owl-totem-300Owl: The Owl spirit animal is emblematic of a deep connection with wisdom and intuitive knowledge. If you have the owl as totem or power animal, you’re likely to have the ability to see what’s usually hidden to most. When he spirit of this animal guides you, you can see the true reality, beyond illusion and deceit. The owl also offers for those who have it a personal totem the inspiration and guidance necessary to deeply explore the unknown and the magic of life. spiritanimal.info

cricket-135x86Cricket: Cricket totem symbolizes good fortune. Cricket will assist you in finding new vibrational energies, enhanced intuition and psychic abilities. He may appear when grounding is needed when you use your psychic abilities. Cricket’s chirp is usually a happy one and can indicate a resurgence of your inner voice. He is similar to the grasshopper in that he is a jumping creature. he teaches you to leap over and leave behind difficult or troublesome situations. He will get you where you need to go effortlessly. psychiclibrary.com

Butterfly: The butterfly is one of the most emblematic totem animals symbolizing personal transformation. If you see the butterfly as your totem or spirit animal, pay attention to the areas in your life or personality that are in need of profound change or transformation. Perhaps this animal totem guides you to be sensitive to your personal cycles of expansion and growth, as well as the beauty of life’s continuous unfolding. An important message carried by the spirit of the butterfly is about the ability to go through important changes with grace and lightness. spiritanimal.info

220px-Tibicen_linneiCicada: The cicada is a symbol of rebirth and longevity. People with this totem are strong communicators and often find rewarding opportunities as the result of patience and persistence. Their callings sometimes come later in life after a period of seclusion. Cicada teaches communication through music- it’s song is easily recognizable and noticed by others. Cicada also speaks of the ability to “shed one’s skin” and emerge as something new and different in life. Coming out of your shell and expressing yourself authentically are themes of this totem. 200px-Pipistrellus_pipistrellus01Bat: Bat symbolizes change, new beginnings, and the ability to hear the “inner voice”. Bats also rebirth. They move through the darkness with swiftness and grace and remind us that in times where we feel “in the dark” we must tune into our finer senses and inner wisdom to guide us safely. Bats are precise and efficient creatures and come into our lives to tell us to be more effective or adapt more precision in our work. Sometimes the answers are not easily seen so bats tell you to intuitively seek your answers in new ways. Find a video here. totemwisdom.com

Take a moment today to go outside for about an hour. What animals are around you trying to get your attention?

BRING A FRIEND for only $50 to Cake By The Ocean in California!

PicMonkey Collage beach

Here’s a bit of truth about me: I didn’t attend my first yoga class by myself. I almost never go to a party without someone unless I know there will be someone there I know. I didn’t even go to the gym for the first time by myself. Honestly, unless I specifically WANT to be by myself (which I do. I need to fill my cup too 😉 ), I will almost never go anywhere new by myself. I get an incredible amount of anxiety stepping into something unknown and unpredictable by myself. Even the years I traveled, lived, taught, worked abroad I still had to give myself a pep talk to do it by myself. You see, I CAN do these things by myself, but I choose not to.

So, as I was kicking this thought around yesterday, I thought “Maybe people looking at retreats and workshops would feel more comfortable if they could bring their own sisterhood”. In the end, I think sometimes experiences are amplified if you’re able to share it with someone else. You know, have someone you can talk to about what you experienced and what they experienced.

That being said, I have added a new payment option to the Cake By The Ocean – A Goddess Gathering in Carpinteria, CA at the end of September. Everything is included except the yoga mat! I’m inviting you to bring a fellow goddess for just $50. That means the cost is $215 for one person or $265 for two! Imagine what a beautiful gift this could be!

I should add, in case you didn’t already know, that I live in Minnesota, so this gathering in California is a one-time offering! I’m so excited to sit by the ocean again!

A New Moon Ritual – Gather your Goddesses

It’s been quite a while since I’ve updated my blog. For a few months I felt like I was floating/drowning in a sea of changes and I finally feel like I’ve gotten close enough to shore to put my feet down and stand up. I’ve completed Yoga Teacher Training, Completely Ayurvedic Bodywork training, opened an art studio, closed an art studio, completed several months of flower/gem/color elixir training, began gathering goddesses on new and full moons created Self-Care Sessions, began monthly Ladies’ Paint Nights and SO MUCH MORE!!!!

To mark my return to my blog, I’m going to start with a New Moon Ritual for you for this New Moon in Leo on August 2nd here in Minnesota. ENJOY!

3
This New Moon’s energy is fiery and confident! This is the time to lean into your creativity to help you narrow down your focus and your desires for this next new moon cycle.

This is a great new moon to vision board:

12366025_867733420012593_4536595525878673407_o

  • This moon centers in your 3rd chakra, your solar plexus chakra, so this would also be a good time to bring in the color yellow in some way. Personally, I like to use Yellow Colored Elixirs by Flora Corona that I use in my practice, and yellow gemstones. A citrine or amber would be great here. This moon also is related to the heart so you could also include green which is a heart chakra color. My favorite gemstone for this chakra is green kyanite, but go with your gut.
  • If you’d like to add aromatherapy, Rosemary and calendula would be great for this ritual. An easy way to do this is to take a tea light and add a couple dried rosemary leaves and a couple dried calendula petals.

Be gentle on yourself and take time for self-care! I know how hard it can be, how burnt out one can get, and how exhausted we all are. That’s why I’ve focused my offerings specifically around Self-Care:

7If you are in the Minneapolis area, I’m now teaching 2 different Self- Care Sessions at Svasti Yoga in Minneapolis. One is for better sleep and the other is for starting your day on the right foot. Both are designed for beginners but beneficial for all.

HONEYMOON-2

To take the Self-Care even further, I’ve starting taking bodywork clients also at Svasti Yoga in South Minneapolis. I offer ayurvedic bodywork (a type of warm oil massage), crystal chakra balancing sessions, as well as Flower/Gem/Color Essence consultations.  If you book your session for sometime in the first three weeks of August, you can take 20% off your session!!!!

HONEYMOONAnd lastly, for those of you anywhere in the world who are feeling stuck or blocked and need a little extra help through this new moon cycle, I offer Distance Reiki Sessions (distance energy work).

12801654_910990315686903_6512663100701226145_nSmudging Kits can also be found in my shop for smudging your own sacred space. This is particularly helpful when you’re feeling stagnant energies, and during moon rituals to create a safe and clear space.

Here’s to a fiery and confident new moon cycle!

Next Moon Gathering will be on the upcoming Full Moon on Thursday, August 18th at my home in Minneapolis. Watch my Facebook page for details.

5Cake By The Ocean – A Goddess Gathering has also been announced and will take place on the beach in Carpinteria, CA on Sunday, September 25th. Registration is OPEN! :). There will be gentle yoga (for beginners), breath work, and color meditations along side the ocean. There will be flower infused cakes and champagnes. There will be mandalas which you will create and paint with water colors infused with flowers and ocean water. Treat yourself to some SERIOUS Self-Care with other goddesses.
